St. Clair mother and entrepreneur returns to Michigan, launches blossoming new business

Wife, mother, and entrepreneur Alonna Hunt fulfilled a long-held dream last year through the creation of her business, Alonna’s Blooms, a fresh-cut flower farm based in St. Clair.

Hunt returned to her hometown last summer after several years away. She says after college, she felt called to explore and moved to Minnesota in 2015.

“I had some good connections in the city through NET [National Evangelization Team] and had some amazing jobs while in Minnesota,” Hunt says. “I worked with refugees from Burma, was a nanny for two families, and volunteered at the Raptor Center working with owls and hawks.”

During that time, life brought her a surprise gift — twin girls Lilly and Eve, now 4 years old.

“I have had a beautiful time in Minnesota, but we wanted more stability and to be closer to family,” Hunt says.

In September 2021, Hunt decided to return to her childhood home in St. Clair. Located nearby her grandparents and with 40 acres of property, she knew it was the perfect place to raise her family and pursue a lifelong dream.

“I’ve always loved flowers,” Hunt says. “We have quite a bit of land here and with the help of MIGardner I started Alonna’s Blooms.”

In January 2022, Hunt planted the seeds in preparation for Alonna’s Blooms’ first season. With two little sprouts of her own, she realized that it was also an opportunity to teach her daughters about nature and entrepreneurship while spending quality time together.

“It’s been so fulfilling to share this joy with them and watch them make their own floral creations,” Hunt says.

Designing stunning bouquets featuring a variety of flowers such as Zinnias, Cosmos, Snap Dragons Tulips, Peonies, and Dahlias, Hunt sells her bouquets at local farmer’s markets and also by subscription, a new feature this year.

“This year we kind of went in a different direction due to the growth of the business,” Hunt says. “I did bi-weekly subscriptions for seven weeks that are directly delivered to your doorstep, so you can do a whole summer of beautiful fresh flowers for only $85.”
