The Algonac Art Fair always comes at the end of summer, the perfect event to finish off the season. The show is Labor Day weekend on Sept. 3-4 at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Algonac City Park.

The location and time of year are ideal, says Cindy Babisz, the Clay Township Recreation Coordinator. Babisz has a booth of her own at the fair, selling Sabika Jewelry.

“The water and sky are brilliant blue,” she says, “the perfect backdrop for all of the beautiful artwork. The Art Fair Committee does a great job of providing a large variety of mixed media art.”

She also says it’s nice to have a yearly event in your town that tourists can plan trips to each year. And the free shuttle service makes the trip convenient for residents and visitors.

The featured artists for 2016 are HOC Ceramics by Neal and Tina Hochstein. The couple make handmade pottery. They love “the atmosphere” of the show, on the river’s edge.

“Our ceramic work is done by using the slab technique,” Neal Hochstein says. “We do not use a potter’s wheel. We try to make everything very colorful. We want to you smile when you see it.”

The couple won best of show at last year’s art fair.

The Algonac Art Fair started in 1972 and is sponsored by the Algonac Rotary Art Fair Committee. About 100 artists come out for it and there is also entertainment and food available. For more information, go Algonac Art Fair.
