Michigan’s first-ever Statewide Housing Plan was released in June 2022, almost three years ago. A little over the halfway point of the comprehensive five-year plan, stakeholders and collaborative partners look at just how critical regional housing partnerships are in their own communities — moving the needle forward across the entire state.

One of Kimball Township’s unique parks and recreation assets is about to become more accessible for residents and visitors alike. The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has purchased privately owned land on both sides of the Black River to develop a park featuring a canoe and kayak launch.
“Once those ecosystems are lost, they can’t be recreated,” says Sarah Richmond of Springfield Township Parks and Recreation. The township collaborates with Oakland County Parks on projects to steward land in northern Oakland County.
To provide a whole health integrative approach to wellness, St. Clair County Community Mental Health utilizes the InSHAPE program. This program provides participants with health and workout plans, group classes, diet plans, and other tools for physical and mental health.
McLaren Port Huron’s 36th annual Festival of Trees returns. This year, the annual event also sees the return of The Festival of Trees Gala on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Blue Water Convention Center. Proceeds from the event help fund a state-of-the-art 3D cone beam CT machine.
IFF, a community development financial institution based in Illinois, has invested and shown a commitment to uplifting communities by providing financial support all over the state, including Grand Rapids neighborhoods. Part of IFF’s investment in Grand Rapids has been focused on the 49507 zip code, centered in a collection of neighborhoods southeast of downtown Grand Rapids. They're working with local nonprofits including Amplify GR and LINC UP and neighborhood residents to help propel development.
Earlier this month, CityFlatsHotel Port Huron brought a new catering partner, a familiar family-owned business in the St. Clair community. The hotel also rebranded its cafe, featuring new menu items.
The City of Port Huron recently installed four audible pedestrian crosswalk signals at busy intersections across the city. These signals make it safer for blind pedestrians and those with vision impairments to traverse local roadways more easily.
McLaren Port Huron launched a Graduate Medical Education program, providing resident physicians with clinical training. The program will increase primary care access and family medicine throughout the Blue Water area.
