“Educating our community on diversity and culture to provide a healthy and meaningful prosperous future is something we value a lot here,” says Josh Greer, a member of the Blue Water Indigenous Alliance.
“I've been charged by God to do this. It's time to give back, and the way to give back beyond empowering my peers is to educate the next generation of nurses. That's what I do now,” says Kevin Watkins, a nurse, president of the Port Huron chapter of the NAACP, and instructor at SC4.
If you are a fan of college basketball, you understand the significance of having a hometown basketball star go on to compete on such a huge stage as the 2021 NCAA March Madness tournament. For the Blue Water Area, that hometown star is Eric Williams Jr.
Unity is a big deal to Tony Miller. He believes that greater goals can be achieved when the community works together. “I’m always trying to find ways to highlight and bring people together,” says Miller.
Through all of life's lessons, Matt and Tim Browning have studied and beat the odds to achieve a success that few find in life, and continue to inspire others to reach new levels as well. They are true champions in their community.
Alphonso Amos works tirelessly with multiple organizations and nonprofits; and not just in our community, but others as well. Driven by passion and the desire to serve, Amos is aware that if he stops or falters, others may go without.
The project seeks to highlight the stories of resilience and success experienced by the Black community in Port Huron, through a variety of views and perspectives.
The community of South Park, and the city of Port Huron in general, would likely be a lot different had it not been for the men and women who have and continue to pass through the doors of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
