#PeopleofPortHuron: Keely Baribeau – shining star for Port Huron’s schools Keely Baribeau has a passion for people and storytelling. She grew up in the Port Huron region near Lakeport with a dream to be a television producer. After graduating from the University of Michigan, she headed to sunny California to pursue her goals. She spent time working in Miami, as well before returning to the Blue Water area in 2009. When she came back, she took on the role of teaching Digital Media Technology at St. Clair TEC, working with students in photography, audio/video production, and graphic design. She spent five years teaching her passions to students before being hired for the newly-created role of director of Community Relations and Marketing for the Port Huron Area School District. Today, her job is to engage students, parents, community and the media. One project Keely is working on is teaming up students with business owners to learn job skills and see STEAM in action. When it comes to Port Huron, Keely loves how everyone is working together for the betterment of the community. “I love the spirit of collaboration, partnership and frankly, fun is something very special to our area.” When she’s not busy with school events, she loves to spend time on the water aboard her boat “Keel Over.” “The environment throughout our region is obviously beautiful,” she says. “It is so fantastic that we get to live amidst these beautiful waterways and parks and recreation areas.” Watching the region grow and prosper has been one of the best things she’s experienced since her return. “I really appreciate all of the wonderful people who are working together to create progress for our area,” she says. “We are very fortunate to have so many recent investments throughout the Blue Water area and I really hope more people come here to experience what we enjoy everyday.” #PeopleofPortHuron #BlueWaterArea #PortHuron #schoollife #PHSchools
