"We want a bit of that European feel. You look at France and Italy – we love those cafés," entrepreneur Mark Stevens says. "We were both in the Navy and have been to over 40 countries and want to bring some of that home."
Thanks to new findings, new funding, and a new focus on mental health, Michigan’s schools are expanding behavioral health services.
Governor Whitmer has declared that Saturday, Sept. 26, is officially Downtown Day and Port Huron is on board. The city will be celebrating with multiple events throughout the day on Saturday.
Soon after the COVID-19 pandemic reached crisis levels, the McLaren Port Huron Foundation began raising money for its employees through a COVID-19 Relief Fund. In just a few weeks, the Foundation was able to raise $50,000 for the fund thanks to donations from businesses and individuals alike.
Blue Water native Mikaela Westrick is encouraged by the progress she sees in downtown Port Huron. "Downtown Port Huron from when I was a child to now, is night and day," she says.
"I was just checking emails from vendors not expecting to see this. This is truly a blessing to be chosen," says Dannieyelle Ellington, owner of Dannie Shalom Beauty Supply. "I plan to order more products. That way everything would be fully stocked."

Medical professionals are certainly not immune to a widespread spike in mental health challenges, and several new initiatives have sought to provide them much-needed support.
