Although the warm summer months may be behind us, it doesn’t mean that the environmental stewardship efforts of the Friends of the St. Clair River are over for the year, too. In fact, the autumn can often be an ideal time for getting outdoors and working to protect and maintain the natural world.
The outdoor learning space is a 20 ft. by 40 ft. covered pavilion that will be outfitted with water and electricity. It will be used for outdoor classroom space, science experiments, play performances, readers theater, and more.
Black residents have borne a disproportionate share of Michigan's COVID-19 cases and deaths, but in recent weeks those disheartening numbers have begun to turn around.
"People are turning to fresh and local foods more and more during the pandemic," says market manager Liz Mathews.
"We want a bit of that European feel. You look at France and Italy – we love those cafés," entrepreneur Mark Stevens says. "We were both in the Navy and have been to over 40 countries and want to bring some of that home."

Governor Whitmer has declared that Saturday, Sept. 26, is officially Downtown Day and Port Huron is on board. The city will be celebrating with multiple events throughout the day on Saturday.
Soon after the COVID-19 pandemic reached crisis levels, the McLaren Port Huron Foundation began raising money for its employees through a COVID-19 Relief Fund. In just a few weeks, the Foundation was able to raise $50,000 for the fund thanks to donations from businesses and individuals alike.
Blue Water native Mikaela Westrick is encouraged by the progress she sees in downtown Port Huron. "Downtown Port Huron from when I was a child to now, is night and day," she says.
