Fresh Conversations program helps Detroit seniors change dietary and fitness habits for the better

The Methodist Children's Home Society runs Fresh Conversations program sessions at community centers and other sites in Detroit, with the goal of helping seniors change their diet and fitness routines to curtail chronic diseases and promote healthy aging.

Fear of accessing public health programs, vulnerable working conditions, and lack of access to federal pandemic relief all contribute to immigrants being more susceptible to the pandemic than most.

"My hope is that when people stay here, I want them to have one less thing to worry about," says Tracy Willard. "Fundraisers like this allow us to do that."

"We provide free lodging for both hospitals in Port Huron. We’re committed to providing that service for free. There’s food and hygiene products included," says Tracy Willard, executive director of the Hunter Hospitality House. "My hope is that when people stay here, I want them to have one less thing to worry about.
