For first-time workers, looking for employment can prove to be a difficult task, but Michigan Works! offers several programs helping youth in foster care and young professionals discover new careers and obtain job training.
Supporting efforts to increase childhood literacy, a StoryWalk was recently installed at Marysville City Park offering a fun and interactive way for children and families to experience reading and recreation.
“The McLaren Port Huron Foundation’s focus this holiday season is about giving back; to the community through the free family holiday movie matinee, our employees by offering all decorated trees to them in a free drawing, and to our yearly donor club members by celebrating their commitment at a donor appreciation event,” says Sara Tait, Director of the McLaren Port Huron Foundation.
Michigan providers and activists are working hard to ensure the guardianship system effectively serves Michigan's older adults.
“I’m big about opportunities for everybody in the community,” Delor says. “People have different outdoor activities that they like, so once we know what those interests are, we can develop our parks around what our constituents and users want, creating a more diverse park.”
A handful of Michigan facilities offer daily wound care, help filling and taking prescriptions, or support with substance use disorder treatment for those in need.
Bay Mills Community College is working with the Bay Mills Indian Community to leverage Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education programming to create environments that inspire healthy living.
Starting in 2023, the act will lower prescription drug costs for people with Medicare, cap out-of-pocket costs at $35 a month for insulin, and allow over-the-counter sales of hearing aids for the first time.
“My inspiration was, and has always been, my grandmother and loving the food she cooked,” says Heather Fagan, owner of Doña Marina’s which recently opened in Port Huron.
Teagan Georgia and Grace Lucille Mason are two of several youth artists whose artwork through an initiative led by Friends of the St. Clair River is helping to increase awareness of stormwater pollution in our waterways.
