Looking for Michigan-made produce and products? 3 farmers markets to visit in St. Clair County

One of the best ways to access fresh vegetables, fruits, and locally-made artisan products is through farmers markets. In St. Clair County, these events can be found in most of the larger communities in the area, often starting as early as May.

Here are three farmers markets in the Blue Water Area to visit this season.

Vantage Point Farmers Market

At this open-air market, visitors can find many unique products ranging from maple syrup, wine, bison meat, plenty of baked goods, and fresh produce.

Now in its 14th year of operation, Vantage Point Farmers Market is located at 51 Court St. in Port Huron on the waterfront of the St. Clair River and the Black River.

Vantage Point Farmers Market in Port Huron, Michigan is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the end of October.

Market Manager Liz Mathews says that they host between 30-35 vendors every week and see on average about 300 or more people a day.

“Everything at our market is either Michigan grown or produced — we don’t do any outside food or anything like that,” says Mathews.

St. Clair Farmers Market

On Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., visitors can find the St. Clair Farmers Market in the parking lot of the St. Clair Riverview Plaza located on N. Riverside Avenue in St. Clair.

Diane Ives, member of the St. Clair Farmers Market Committee, says the vendors offer a variety of products and produce ranging from flowers and vegetables to eggs and honey.

“There’s easy parking and a beautiful view of the river, but it’s nice that it’s in the middle of the week as a lot of them [farmers markets] are toward the weekend,” says Ives.

Hulett’s Farm Fresh Market & Greenhouse

When he was 16 years old, Todd Hulett — also referred to as “The Corn Man” as a nod to his highly-popular sweet corn — got his roots selling sweet corn out of the back of his pickup truck. Now over 40 years later, Hulett’s Farm Fresh Market & Greenhouse is located on Pine Grove Avenue in Port Huron where customers can satisfy their craving for sweet corn seven days a week during its season.

"When I was 16, I started out on the back of a pickup truck selling sweet corn — that was about 41 years ago," says Todd Hulett. The greenhouse is open between May and early July, and once the sweet corn harvest is ready in July the farm market opens offering fresh, Michigan grown produce through the end of October.

“When we started out, it was very small, but we have a lot of loyal customers that’s helped us out through the years to keep going and grow bigger and bigger every year,” says Hulett.
